What makes the Pride of Sylhet special?

British Curry Awards 2012 - Jalsa Ghar included again in Britain's top 100 curry restaurantsThere are thousands of 'Indian' restaurants in the UK, many run by Bangladeshi expatriates serving traditional 'Curry'. However, that word is almost as misleading as the term 'Chop Suey' was to Chinese cuisine. Now, well known local restaurateurs Zia Chowdhury and Omar Shorif are correcting that misdemeanor.

They were born in Sylhet, a city in north eastern Bangladesh that's located on the banks of the River Surma and surrounded by the Jaintia, Khasi and Tripura hills. The region is known for its tea gardens, tropical forests and many lakes. Sylhetis enjoy fish from the lakes and fruits and pickles from the hills of Assam that contribute to the distinct nature of their cuisine.
